KevinKevin C. Miller served in the United States Marine Corps infantry from 2002-2006 with multiple deployments to Iraq. He graduated from Humboldt State University with a BA in Recreation Administration and a minor in Business Administration in 2011.
In 2014, Kevin was selected as a National Service Leader by AmeriCorps Alums, based on his term of service with Swords to Plowshares as an AmeriCorps VISTA (2013), where he worked on employment research, outreach, and helped administer a statewide employment collaborative in California.
He has continued and expanded on his work at Swords to Plowshares, now as the Strategic Development and Communications Coordinator, where his primary focus of work includes building partnerships between employment and training providers, relevant state and national entities, not-for-profit associations and private employers.

Founded in 1974 by Vietnam veterans, Swords to Plowshares is a community-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides counseling and case management, employment and training, housing, and legal assistance to approximately 3,000 veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area each year.

They  also advocate on behalf of veterans and provide community education for over 1,500 first responders, employers, social workers, attorneys, and other professionals who engage with veterans.

At Swords to Plowshares, veterans work one-on-one with Employment & Training Program staff to address their individual needs, overcome obstacles to employment, and determine a long-term career plan. They provide job placement assistance and vocational training programs to help veterans translate their skills and train for new careers in high-growth, high-wage careers in the civilian sector. Swords to Plowshares offer career counseling and helping veterans become job-ready!  

They also launched the Women Veterans Program to ensure women feel welcomed and supported within the continuum of care and advocate for system change to better address women veterans’ emerging needs. In addition to full continuum of services, their Women Veterans Program has launched new initiatives in recent years to provide women with wrap-around services and support. They also have housing sites allow for a peaceful lifestyle, therapeutic to veterans who are trying to stabilize their lives.
